The Arceau, a watch that is both whimsical and elegant.
Conceived by long-time Hermès creative director, Henri D'Origny, the Arceau represents the first watch designed by the Maison's Swiss watchmaking subsidiary, La Montre Hermès S.A.
The design language continues to this day, largely unchanged.
Influenced by the equestrian roots of Hermès, the numerals on the dial, described by D'Origny as "à l'italienne" appear to be galloping through time; a visual dance that embodies the movement of a horse. The playful design language continues with asymmetrical lugs referencing more the shape of stirrups of a saddle than traditional lugs of the era.
The model is reference AR3.220 and dates to the early 2000s. It marks the appears of a super useful foldable claps and slightly less assymetrical lugs while retaining the distinctive two-tone so iconic from the 1980s and 1990s.
